I'm a first-time homeowner living in a townhouse, and I recently hired a company to replace an old ranch-style fence that was falling apart due to a tree uprooting it. They were supposed to create a new fence in the same style, but while the quality of the cedar wood is better than what I had, the finish feels rough and uneven, as if it was poorly chopped in my yard. The new fence is level, but it looks worse than the old one! Also, there's a gap at the front of the yard where the new fence ends a few feet short of the previous one, and the posts rattle even with concrete foundations. I'm really not satisfied with the work. How do I approach this situation?

I totally get your frustration! When dealing with contractors, it's crucial to be very explicit about your expectations. If you haven’t already, reach out to the fencing company and let them know how disappointed you are. They may be willing to correct their mistakes or offer you a solution.
It sounds like they might have used rough-cut cedar instead of smooth lumber, which can give a rougher appearance. You should definitely check if you specified the type of wood in your agreement. Have you thought about reaching out to them to express your concerns? It could be worth it if they didn’t follow your request. Also, posting photos could help if you want to get more specific advice from others.
