I'm dealing with a bit of a garden situation. We've got some weeds that are turning into a small tree growth between our house and the concrete slabs out front. On the other side, there are some bushes that I want to keep but need to manage. The tricky part is that we have a stray cat who hangs out in our garden, along with hedgehogs and possibly other local wildlife. I want to tackle the slugs too, but I need to do it without endangering the cat or any other animals. Any suggestions how to manage this sustainably?

You could definitely try manually picking the slugs during a moist evening. Grab a bag, go out, and just toss them in. It sounds gross, but it works! And if you're looking for an easier method, setting up a bowl of beer could be a fun way to trap them without harming your garden pals. Just make sure to create a barrier so the cats can't get to it!
While it is tempting to use traps or repellents, just remember that a lot of those can be harmful to wildlife like hedgehogs and frogs who help keep slugs at bay. I suggest digging up the weeds and letting the slugs be; they play a valuable role in the ecosystem! If you still want to keep the slugs down, looks like a beer trap could be your best bet, just keep it safe from any critters that might wander too close.
When it comes to getting rid of those weeds, it's best not to spray any chemicals since they could harm your cuddly cat and the hedgehogs. Instead, you might want to just pull them out by hand, especially if you can manage to get the roots. For smaller weeds in the cracks, boiling water or some salt should do the trick!

True, slugs are part of the food chain! Maybe consider attracting more natural predators ?.
