What’s the best way to fill big gaps in tiled flooring next to the wall?

I recently decided to replace our skirting board and do some decorating. However, upon removing the old skirting, I found out that the tiles were laid with the skirting in place, leaving me with large gaps of about 1.2cm between the floor and the wall. I want to avoid putting in new skirting that fits directly into the gap since that seems unprofessional. Can anyone suggest the best method to fill these gaps?

If you want a clearer picture of your situation, a photo would really help! Sometimes visualizing makes it easier to give better advice.

Adding some molding at the bottom of your plinth could really finish off the look nicely! They’re stylish and might help cover those gaps a bit too.

One great option is to use wider skirting boards that can cover the gap completely by sitting on top of the floor. If you prefer to have them fit into the gap, you can use a shoe or quarter round molding against the boards on top of the tiles. It's totally fine to just cover up the gaps now that you’ve discovered them—don’t stress too much about it being perfect.
