Is It Smart to Install Ethernet During Home Renovations?

Asked By CuriousCat789 On

I'm currently renovating my house and there's a lot of electrical work being done. I'm considering whether it's worth it to run Ethernet cables to multiple rooms. With the rise of WiFi, are Ethernet connections still necessary or will they soon be obsolete? I'm curious about the opinions on this.

Yes! Running Ethernet throughout your house is a fantastic investment. If you can, install more jacks than you think you need – it's always better to be over-prepared! Future upgrades will be less of a headache this way. Plus, if you're planning to install security cameras or smart devices, those often benefit greatly from hard wiring.

Exactly, running cables while renovating saves so much effort later. Trust me, you don't want to regret not doing it!

Definitely go for Ethernet! Even with faster WiFi, having wired options ensures stability, especially for stationary devices like desktops, gaming consoles, and TVs. It also keeps your WiFi free for portable devices. I regret not running more lines when I renovated my place!

Totally agree! I have wired connections for my gaming setup, and the speed boost is incredible compared to WiFi.

Absolutely, you should wire Ethernet! Having hardwired connections provides much better performance than WiFi. Plus, it'd be wise to run low voltage conduits, known as 'Smurf tubes', which let you upgrade easily down the line without tearing up walls. Make sure to think about placements for security cameras and other devices while you're at it!

Yes, and consider adding conduits for future upgrades. They make it super easy to add new wires without hassle later.
