I'm looking to run a 25m Ethernet cable along the skirting boards in my house. While we have WiFi, I need a direct connection for certain tasks. Right now, I've used masking tape over a small section of cable by the garage door, but I'm worried it will leave sticky residue on the skirting boards. I could run the cable through the ceiling, but the existing holes for speakers are about 20cm from the wall, which wouldn't look great. I'm looking for options that reduce tripping hazards, look decent, and are unappealing to a toddler.

I recently covered my cords with a quarter round cord cover. It sits nicely on the floor right in front of the baseboard and blends in. I used a particular one from D-Line that worked well for me. Here's a link to it: D-Line White Quarter Round Cord.
Have you considered removing the baseboards, laying the cable in the gap behind them, and then reattaching the baseboards? That might keep things neat and tidy! Since you mentioned 'skirting boards,' I'm guessing this might be a UK situation where the walls are a bit different, so it might be tricky depending on your setup.
