Hey everyone! I'm looking to rewire my 1960s home because I've been experiencing some electrical issues. The house was built really well overall, and while it was rewired at some point, it doesn't seem to have been done properly. I often notice flickering lights, switches that stop working, and the breaker trips when too many devices are on. My house is about 2500 sq ft located in California. I'm curious if anyone has gone through a similar experience. What should I expect in terms of costs? Also, are there specific questions I should ask an electrician before getting started?

It really depends on your electrical panel type. If you have a Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel, those could be the source of your issues. You might be looking at something as simple as loose connections in outlets, switches, or fixtures. I'd recommend getting an electrician to come check everything out; it could be a couple hundred bucks just for a visit. If you need a new panel, though, that could run you a few thousand. If you haven't had any wiring updated since the 60s, it's worth checking!

Thanks for the insight! We don’t know much about electrical systems, so this is really helpful.
