How to Secure Glass Blocks for a Standing Table?

I'm working on a project to create a standing table with glass block 'legs' and I need some advice on how to secure them properly. The table dimensions are 140x40 cm, and it needs to support up to 50 kg. I'm planning to place a laminated wood top of 18 cm on stacked glass blocks that are 19x19x8 cm. There will be five layers of paired blocks on each side, with a middle column for additional support, and I also want to add wooden boards for shelves after the first and third layers of blocks. I've come across various methods for securing glass blocks online, like using cement, polymer glue, silicone, or mortar, but I'm worried that glue alone might not be strong enough to handle the weight. I've heard some suggestions about using silicone sheets or bearing pads to distribute the weight evenly, but I'm not entirely convinced they would suffice. Alternatively, I could consider using racks, but I've been advised that mortar-based setups might not be ideal for vertical loads like this. What do you think is the best way to secure the glass blocks together and effectively attach them to the wood?

If you're set on using stacked glass blocks, I would suggest running a threaded rod through the entire stack. Mortar them securely together, but don't expect it to be the best long-term solution for weight support.

I recommend constructing a wooden support frame for your table and then facing it with glass blocks. Glass blocks aren't really designed to bear heavy loads on their own. Using them purely as a decorative element might be the way to go!

Exactly, the glass blocks shouldn't be relied upon for structural support. They’re great for aesthetics but not for carrying weight.

Mortar really holds up over time! I've got a glass block wall in my shower that's been solid for over 20 years, thanks to quality mortar. If you go this route, just make sure you use the right type.

For sure! I've seen glass blocks that are super sturdy with mortar. You just need to ensure it's the right mix.
