Is it Safe to Pull Out Small Trees Near My Foundation?

I'm considering removing some small trees that are close to my home's foundation before selling it. The trunks are about 6 inches in diameter, and I thought about using my SUV to pull them out. However, I'm worried if this could potentially damage my foundation or cause other issues. Should I try to yank them out, or is it better to cut them down flush with the ground?

While you might think pulling out a 6" tree would be easy, it could actually be quite tough depending on the type of tree and soil. An SUV might struggle, and if the rope snaps, it could damage your vehicle. It might be best to simply cut them down instead. Plus, if you're selling, cutting them is quicker and safer!

Haha, yeah, I've seen those videos where SUVs get wrecked from trying that. It's not worth the risk!

Good point! With my SUV’s 3000 lb towing capacity, I think I’ll just stick to cutting them. Thanks!

It's really important to know what's underground before you pull those trees. We had a contractor who did similar work and accidentally pulled up gas and sprinkler lines when he yanked out a tree with a chain. If you're selling, it might be safer just to cut them down flush or below grade and cover the spots with dirt or mulch instead.

Removing vegetation around the house is a good idea for selling. But make sure there are no branches near plumbing or other lines. I’d recommend hand-digging carefully if you go that route, or calling the utility company just to be safe.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice! I was worried about underground lines.
