Looking for Low-Maintenance Houseplants That Are Hard to Kill

Hey everyone, I'm really struggling with houseplants! I seem to have the opposite of a green thumb — any plant I try to care for just doesn't last, especially my succulents, which usually die within a month. I absolutely love having plants around, but I need some recommendations for low-maintenance houseplants that are super hard to kill. I want to impress my friends by finally being a successful plant parent! Thanks in advance for your help!

Honestly, the biggest issue with succulents is usually overwatering. Even if they’re not in the best light, they shouldn’t die within a month unless you’re drowning them. Try out a ZZ plant instead; they’re even more low-maintenance than succulents, and my ZZ has thrived with hardly any care. Just don’t overwater it!

If you're losing succulents so quickly, it may be because you're overwatering them, or they might not be getting enough light. For a good starter plant, I suggest a snake plant. It's pretty forgiving and does well in low light, just don’t let it sit in total darkness! They're great for keeping alive with minimal effort.

How can you even kill succulents? Generally, they need very little care. But if you find it really hard, consider a pothos plant. They’re pretty easy to maintain, although they still need some light. For the absolute easiest option, think about getting a marimo — they just need water changed every couple of weeks and don’t really do anything else. Just make sure you don’t expect growth from it!
