I know painting over wallpaper isn't usually recommended, but I'm out of options here. The wallpaper is pre-2000, firmly stuck to the drywall, and removing it seems impossible. We're on a tight deadline and have little painting experience, so our realtor suggested painting over it. I'm looking for advice on what kind of paint to use. The existing wallpaper is a dark green, untextured style, and we're planning to go with white paint. I've been told an oil-based primer would be best to avoid reactions with the wallpaper, but a local paint store employee suggested using Bullseye 1-2-3 primer, which sounds simpler. Would using a paint-and-primer combo be a better choice than regular paint over primer?

Honestly, I really think you should try removing the wallpaper if you can. A steam wallpaper remover worked wonders for me—just press it against the paper until it bubbles and it peels right off. It's definitely a better use of your time than potentially ending up with peeling paint!
You're on the right track with using the Bullseye 1-2-3 primer! It's known for its strong adhesion and versatility, perfect for tough surfaces like wallpaper. Just make sure to get a good quality paint on top of it, and you should be fine!
I would be cautious about painting over it. Sometimes, if the original wallpaper was oil-based, you might run into issues with the paint sticking. Plus, make sure to secure those seams well if you decide to go forward with painting. I've seen seams lift after painting, leading to uneven patches, and that's no fun.

Thanks for the heads-up! I'll definitely check the seams and secure them better.
