How Often Should Coastal Cape Town Homeowners Service Their AC?

If you live in Cape Town's coastal areas, you've probably wondered how often your air conditioner needs servicing. Being close to the ocean brings beautiful views and fresh air, but it also brings salty, humid conditions that can wear down your AC unit faster. Regular maintenance is key to keeping your system in tip-top shape. Experts recommend servicing your AC at least once a year for inland systems, but for those closer to the ocean, it's best to do it twice a year to avoid issues like corrosion and efficiency loss. This includes tasks like cleaning coils, checking refrigerant levels, and inspecting electrical connections. Plus, if you see rust or white salt on your outdoor unit, it's a sign you need to get it checked out sooner! So, how often do you service your AC, and have you noticed any wear and tear from the coastal climate?

The ocean air can really do a number on AC units! Personally, I think servicing twice a year might still not cut it. I don’t live right by the coast, but I’ve seen my clients’ systems needing serious cleaning. Good luck with yours!

Definitely! Those units can wear down fast. I also use silicone spray on mine to protect the covers and that really helps combat the coastal damage.

Totally agree! That salt air is a serious challenge.
