I'm moving into my childhood home, which my family had been renting out for years without any formal agreements. While getting ready to move in, we discovered some serious issues with the floor joists due to moisture in the crawl space; this was overlooked by previous tenants as my dad found jacks already in place under the house. Given the extent of the problem, we decided not to move in until it's resolved. Now, we've been trying to get a contractor to assess the situation but have had no luck for over a month. We've called 3-4 different businesses, but either can't reach anyone or they promise to come out and then ghost us. Is this typical when dealing with contractors? Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

I’d recommend starting with an engineer to get a clear understanding of what needs fixing. You want to avoid any contractor mistakes, whether overdoing or underdoing the work. It's not uncommon to face delays like this, especially with the season changing. In my experience, I've found contractors are usually more available during fall and winter since they're less busy with outdoor jobs. Good luck with it!

Thank you for the advice! I hope the seasonal slowdown works in our favor. It’s such a mixed bag with the construction happening around here, so I guess we’ll see!
