Hey everyone! I've been using my trusty old Dewalt DW703 miter saw since 1988 for DIY projects like building shelves and closet organizers. It's been reliable, cuts square, and the brushes are still in good shape. However, I've noticed a lot of buzz around sliding miter saws lately, especially for more complex projects like built-in pantry cabinets and sliding drawer systems this winter. I already have a table saw, so I'm wondering if it would make sense to sell my old Dewalt and invest in a new sliding miter saw. What do you think?

I switched to a sliding miter saw primarily for cutting larger boards, like 2x12s for a deck. But honestly, if space is a concern for you, I'd suggest keeping your Dewalt and simply using your circular saw for wider cuts when necessary. Also, sliders aren't always as precise as non-sliders, so you might want to stick with what you have and invest in jigs for your table saw instead.
If your current saw cuts square and you’ve got a table saw, it might not be worth it to switch to a sliding saw. They’re great for certain bigger cuts, but if you’re not regularly cutting wide boards, your Dewalt should keep meeting your needs just fine.
I've got a 10” Makita chop saw that I love and wouldn't trade for anything. It's durable and super accurate. Remember, most miter saws are built for framing and rough work, while your table saw is more suited for the detailed stuff you'll need when building those built-ins.
