House Flooding Nightmare: Need Advice on Next Steps

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a bind and could really use your advice. My family lives in a small town near Wichita, Kansas, and a few months ago, our home's foundation flooded. We managed to get the water pumped out without too much trouble, but now I've noticed the bathroom floor is slowly sinking and buckling. I reached out to our homeowners insurance for help, but they claim the floor issue is a 'pre-existing condition' and won't cover the repairs. To make matters worse, our toilet recently clogged badly, causing water to overflow and seep through the base, making it completely unusable. We've been going to the YMCA and QuickTrip just to relieve ourselves. A plumber checked it out and said there's a pipe problem, but their company won't fix it until the floor issue is resolved, which we can't afford without insurance support. I'm feeling completely stuck with a failing bathroom and limited options. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Can you give some more details about the flooding? Do you have a crawlspace or basement? If it’s a crawlspace, you’ll want to check if the piers or footings have shifted – that could be a big part of the issue.

I wouldn’t say it’s a catch 22, but have you tried getting quotes for the floor repairs? It might also help to identify the underlying problem since the foundation was flooded. Sometimes knowing exactly what needs fixing helps when dealing with insurance.

It’s frustrating when insurance companies deny claims, but don’t give up! They often assume people will just walk away. You may want to contact your State Insurance Commissioner – they can really help you push back against your insurer. Their negligence might have caused your floor to warp enough to break the pipes. Here’s the form for Kansas: [Kansas Insurance Complaint](https://insurance.kansas.gov/complaint/). They’ll get involved and can apply some pressure on the insurance company.
