I recently purchased a house with a macerator pump that manages the water drainage for both the shower and the toilet. I've noticed that when I flush the toilet, the pump activates and efficiently ejects the water, but when I take a shower, the water fills up without the pump activating automatically. Instead, I have to manually push a button to make the pump work. Since both the toilet and shower use the same pump, I'm curious why the shower doesn't trigger it automatically. Is this normal, or is there something wrong?

It sounds like you might have a faulty water level switch. That's often the part that tells the pump to kick in. If it's not functioning properly, the pump won't activate when the water reaches a certain level in the tank. You might need to replace it, but it can definitely be a messy job if you have to dig around in the pump.
