Can I Convert My HP 54601B Oscilloscope’s CRT to an LCD?

I'm working on an HP 54601B oscilloscope that currently has a faulty CRT screen. Although I could try recapping it to fix the CRT, I'm really interested in replacing it entirely with an LCD. I've seen similar upgrades done but not specifically for this model. Has anyone done this conversion or know of any compatible kits?

It sounds like the high-pitched noise you're hearing might be from the power supply unit (PSU) instead of the CRT itself. If the PSU isn’t functioning right, it wouldn’t allow the CRT to start up. You might want to start your troubleshooting there and consider replacing the capacitors first. That could lead to a clearer diagnosis of the issue.

I checked out a teardown video for the HP 54601B, and it looks like it uses a raster CRT. So, yeah, replacing the monitor with an LCD seems possible! By the way, if you don't want the old CRT, I'd be happy to take it off your hands!
