I've been dreaming of getting an olive tree for years now, but I was under the impression that the UK climate might not be suitable for them. Before I finally make a purchase, I'd love to hear any advice or tips on what I should keep in mind. What do I need to know about growing olive trees here?

I have one planted right at the front of my house; it’s grown tall enough to reach the roof! I need to trim it every couple of years to keep it in check. And while I personally don’t like olives, the birds enjoy the fruits!
Location matters a lot! I’ve tried growing them in pots here in Scotland, and it didn’t work out. But if you’re in the southern areas, like the coast or East Anglia, you should be fine.
When shopping, go for the biggest tree you can find. A mature olive tree can make a huge difference - I’d say a 50-gallon tub is ideal!
Honestly, olive trees can do quite well in the UK if you place them right. I’ve seen big ones at garden centers that are super pricey, but the fun is really in growing them yourself. Plus, the flowers might not be stunning, but getting olives is a long-term reward!
Yep, I've got a few growing in different mediums and they're all doing well! It's fun experimenting.
I’ve got an olive tree in a pot on my terrace and it’s thriving! Just make sure you give it plenty of water, especially during the dry spells. They love sunlight too, so a nice sunny spot is key.

Totally agree! Watching them grow is part of the joy. Just make sure you’re patient with the process.
