I'm new to woodworking and looking to tackle some projects around the house and garage for my wife. I have a choice between two miter saws: a brand new Ryobi 10" cordless model for $160 and a used Dewalt 12" corded model for $150 (though it has a lightly damaged cable). I'm curious to hear your opinions on these options. Also, would it be a good idea to get a Diablo blade for my work?

Consider what other tools you have and the types of projects you’re tackling. If you need precise cuts, a higher-tooth blade will help a lot. If the Dewalt is just cosmetic damage, I think you should grab it, especially since you’ll be making planter boxes and storage racks.
I'd definitely go for the Dewalt! It's a reliable brand, and even with damage to the cable, it’s worth it if you’re handy enough to fix it. Plus, a 12" saw will give you more versatility over a 10".
That's pretty much what I think too. Dewalt seems like the better choice overall.
It really comes down to the cable issue. If it’s just cosmetic, the Dewalt is the way to go. I've had a Ryobi for a while and it works well for basic projects, but for accuracy, the Dewalt is superior. If you’re okay with potential repairs, I say go for it!
Sounds like Dewalt wins out for quality then. I'm comfortable fixing the cable if needed.
Yeah, my first projects will be planter boxes and garage racks. I'm thinking having that 12" could really help. I also plan to get an impact drill soon.
