I'm wondering if renters can qualify for the 30% tax credit if they pay for a solar system installation in the house they're renting. I know that homeowners usually can't claim the credit when the property is rented out. But, what about us renters? Can I get the credit if I invest in a solar system for my rental? My contractor says yes, but I'd really like some more opinions on this. Thanks!

Yes, renters can claim the residential clean energy tax credit for solar systems installed in their homes! According to the IRS, if you’re making improvements to your main home, whether you own or rent, you can apply for the credit as long as the place is where you primarily live. Just make sure the improvements meet the eligibility criteria! Check out the IRS page for more details.

That's awesome news! Thanks for clarifying that!
