Why Isn’t My PowerStack 5ah Battery Working with Other Tools?

I'm having trouble with my 5ah PowerStack battery. For some reason, it doesn't seem to work with other tools when I use an adapter. I've tried different manufacturing dates of the battery, and all I get is a brief burst of power before it completely shuts down. On the other hand, my other batteries, like the 1.7ah PowerStack and the new 8ah PowerPack, work just fine with those adapters. It's frustrating because I love the weight and size of the 5ah PowerStack, but this compatibility issue means I can't use it with everything I want. I'm even looking to sell my two almost-new batteries. Also, I'm really hoping that the upcoming 4ah PowerPack will perform similarly to the 8ah one because I need a medium-sized battery for my Makita Miter Saw and more.

Welcome to the world of capitalism, my friend! Sometimes, brands just focus on their own products and don't play nice with others. It can be annoying if it limits your tools' usability.

It sounds like a frustrating situation! Dewalt might not have prioritized compatibility with non-Dewalt tools for that 5ah battery, which is a bummer considering that the other batteries work without issues. It's kind of odd that they’d leave this one out, especially when their latest batteries support it. Maybe it's a design choice?

Totally get that! Honestly, it's surprising that they wouldn't make it universal like the others. Fingers crossed the new ones are more versatile.

Have you thought about reaching out to Dewalt support? They might have some insights or solutions for your issue. Also, selling those batteries could help you invest in something that works better for your needs!
