I'm planning to paint a wooden cupboard metallic silver and I'm unsure about the best kind of paint to use. Would acrylic silver spray work for this? Can I use regular silver wall paint, or is there a specific type of paint made for wood that I should consider for durability? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Any paint can work as long as you use the right primer first. Some paints bond better to wood naturally, but others need a primer to be durable. Make sure your primer and paint are compatible—like using a water-based primer with water-based paint. Also, try getting tips from modelmakers on creating metallic effects; they know a lot about making paints look metallic!
You should be fine to paint over that as long as the current paint is clean and in good condition.
It's really important to prepare the surface well! You'll want to properly clean and maybe seal the wood. Choose a paint that works well with your primer—this is crucial for durability. A clear coat at the end can also help protect your new paint job.
Thank you!
If you use the right primer and maybe a sanding sealer, you can pretty much use any paint you like on wood. For a shiny metallic finish, check out some YouTube videos where folks spray paint guitars; they have some great techniques you can mimic.
Thanks!
Check out Varathane's products; they offer a Metallic Silver 3 in 1 that can be applied right after sanding without needing additional coats. It's a great shortcut, especially if you're a beginner or need to get it done fast!

Thank you! What if the cupboard is already primed and painted grey? Can I just spray or paint silver over that?
