Is My Bathroom Reno Causing a Ventilation Issue with My Gas Water Heater?

I'm in the middle of renovating my bathroom and noticed that when we ripped out the stack on the second floor, it seems to have been venting my gas hot water heater (HWT) as well. I'm really concerned if this is going to pose a problem for us. Does anyone have suggestions or solutions for this situation?

Yes, if you removed the flue vent for your gas hot water heater, that's definitely gonna be a problem! You should turn off the heater right away and shut the gas valve until you can properly vent it outdoors. Also, I strongly recommend getting a carbon monoxide detector if you don't have one; you really don't want flue gases leaking into your home!

This is a big issue. The gas water heater needs a proper vent to prevent carbon monoxide from building up in your house. You might want to look into installing a new stack or even a direct vent system to ensure safety.
