I'm currently using 5.0 XC batteries with my Hole Hawg, but I'm finding the performance lacking. It stalls pretty easily, forcing me to reverse and retry several times, even for small holes like 7/8" in old heartpine with an Irwin Speedbore bit. I'm considering borrowing a larger battery for this project and likely would buy one afterward. I don't think the tool necessarily needs the 12.0 Forge battery, but I'm curious about how much power is actually 'big enough'? Just a heads up, this is specifically about the Hole Hawg, not the Super Hole Hawg.

Honestly, I find the 5.0 batteries to be a bit underpowered for heavy work. You might want to consider upgrading to something stronger. When I’m using my Hole Hawg for tougher jobs, I don't just go full throttle; I pause to clear out the chips. It doesn't stress the battery as much and keeps the tool working better. If you push it too hard, the drill and battery won’t perform their best!
It sounds like you might benefit from upgrading your battery. While the exact performance difference between the Forge batteries may not be huge, going up to a 6.0 or even a 6.0 HO can definitely help, especially compared to the 5.0s you’re using now. I’ve mostly moved to the larger batteries for better performance myself. Just a thought, but maybe the 3 and 6 HO batteries should come with the fuel kits instead of those 2 5 XC batteries!

Clearing chips is crucial! Even with powerful machines, you have to give them a break to avoid overheating.
