I'm considering a new drill and impact driver for my home renovation projects. I've come across the DCD1007, and while many rave about its features, I'm wondering if it's too much power for what I need. Would I be better off getting the DCD805 and a separate SDS drill for concrete and stone work? Also, what do you think is the best impact driver on the market right now?

Honestly, the size and weight of the DCD1007 are more of a concern than the power itself. You can always adjust the settings to reduce power if needed, but if you’re not drilling into concrete often, it might be cumbersome. The DCD805 is still robust and comfortable for everyday tasks, so that could be a better choice if you're in it for the long haul.
For most typical home renovations, the DCD1007 might be overkill. I'm a carpenter, and I've found that the DCD805 paired with a corded SDS drill works perfectly for masonry. The 1007 is powerful but feels heavy, which can be tough for daily tasks. Personally, I’d recommend going for the lighter alternatives unless you really need the power.
If you're mainly drilling into concrete and doing heavy work, definitely get an SDS drill. I rarely use my hammer drill now. For general use or smaller jobs, the DCD800 works great and is much easier to handle. The 1007 is nice but may not be necessary unless you’re doing intensive drilling regularly.
I think it depends on your needs, but if you expect to handle heavy-duty tasks, the DCD1007 could be very beneficial. I upgraded to it recently and found it tackles tougher jobs with ease, even with bigger lag bolts. It’s a solid choice for renovations where you might need extra power, especially if you're working on concrete, but it could feel a bit bulky at times.
I think the DCD1007 is a bit heavy for daily DIY tasks unless you're fine with heftier tools. But if you're drilling into tougher materials, it definitely shines. My experience with the DCD800 for lighter jobs has been very positive. If you're just starting out with renovations, consider which tools are most versatile for your specific needs.
