I recently had my air conditioning unit repaired after it stopped blowing cold air. We live in an older split-level home in Virginia, about 1800 sq feet, and didn't have any prior issues with the AC. The internal temperature reached 85 degrees, while it was 99 degrees outside during a heat wave. The technician came to fix it, and although the vents are blowing cold air now, it has only dropped the indoor temperature to 81 degrees after several hours. I'm wondering if this slow cooling could be due to the extreme heat outside or if I need to call the technician back. Should I be concerned?

I’d definitely reach out to the technician to clarify what they found. It can be harder for an AC to cool things down after it has been fully hot inside for a while. Also, make sure your thermostat isn't set too low too quickly, because that can cause freezing issues. Keep an eye on it tonight and if it doesn’t improve by morning, give them a call!
I think you should definitely call them back. It’s possible the technician might have only partially fixed the issue or didn’t recharge it correctly. There are a lot of things that could still be wrong that a pro needs to look at again. Better to get it checked out than to let it go!
Honestly, with how hot it's been, it might just take longer to cool things down. If your return air is really warm, you can only expect a big drop in temperature if the system is running well. Also, if you’re losing air through duct leaks, that might be bringing in more hot air. Just make sure to check the temp coming out of the vents!

Yes! Don’t crank the AC down too fast. That’s how you can cause freezing and damage. It’s better to let it come down gradually!
