Advice for Lifting a Dryer onto a Washing Machine in a Tight Space

I just moved into a new apartment and have a washer/dryer combo coming in. The delivery person mentioned that they won't install the dryer on top of the washer, which puts me in a tough spot because the dryer weighs around 40kg (90 lbs). I'm trying to figure out a way to lift it into a corner where there's not much space to maneuver. I've been looking for suggestions on tools or straps that could help, or if there's a service I can call for assistance. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

One method you could try is putting a blanket against the wall side of the washing machine. With two people, lift the dryer from the front and side while letting it slide up the wall on the blanket. It helps the wall support some weight while you lift, making it easier to maneuver it into place. Just remember to have a second person to guide it in!

This sounds like a solid plan! I did something similar when I had a washer/dryer stack before. I squatted under the dryer and lifted it while leaning against the wall, but it was a bit sketchy doing it solo. Definitely get a buddy to help so you can stabilize it as you lift.

You might want to move both machines out into an open area first. Put the washer on a low dolly or a furniture mover, then set the dryer on top of it. Once they’re both wheeled back into the corner, it should make installation much easier!

I was wondering the same thing! Why do you have two sets of appliances in that room? Just curious!

It's a shared laundry room for multiple apartments in the building.

If you're comfortable with lifting, try dragging it out of the tight space first and then carrying it back in together. Dryers are easier to lift over short distances, but just be careful with your form!

If you can, completely remove the other appliances nearby. This way, you’ll have more room to work with and can easily get two people to help lift the new unit once it's in place.
