I'm in the process of replacing a light fixture that the builder installed and adding another one on the opposite side of the deck door. I've cut into the brick to make the junction box fit flush inside. My question is, is using mortar the only option to secure the junction box into the brick? Additionally, are there any tips or important considerations I should be aware of while working on this? Just to clarify, I've never tackled an exterior light installation with a new junction box before, but I'm pretty comfortable with tools and wiring since I'm in the trades—just not specifically lighting installations. Thanks in advance for your help!

Using tapcons is a solid idea! You might be able to drill short Tapcon screws into the brick near the junction box to help secure it, but just be cautious about potential long-term damage to the wall. If you're worried about stability, it could be worthwhile to combine that with mortar. Just make sure everything’s well-supported but not overdoing it might save you some hassle later.

Yeah, that was my thinking! I really didn't find much info on mounting a box inside brick mechanically; it seems everyone goes for mortar. I guess I’ll go with a few tapcons along with the mortar for extra support. Better safe than sorry, right?
