Hey everyone, I'm currently working on restoring a vintage Victorian cast iron hand pump and the well it was attached to, which hasn't been in use for many years. I've just posted the first part of my journey on YouTube, and I'm hoping to get some help! While trying to get water flowing again, I encountered something solid down the well pipe. I'm not sure if it's a blockage, a part of the well structure, or something else entirely. What do you think I should do? Should I try drilling through it, perhaps with a long drill bit? Or use a drain rod with a chisel? Honestly, I'm quite stumped and would appreciate any tips or insights you might have on how to move forward. Thanks so much!

Why not try using a jet wash to clear out any sediment first? It can sometimes help dislodge blockages. Just make sure you're prepared for some water to flow out afterward!

Thanks for the tip! I actually found that there isn't much sediment down there, just a couple of inches of wet mud. I poured some hose water and it hasn’t drained, so I’m worried jet washing will just leave me with even more water and mud to deal with!
