Hey everyone! I've been wanting to paint my space for a while, but time constraints led me to hire a local crew after getting multiple recommendations from neighbors. They just wrapped up their first day of painting the kitchen cabinets and walls. However, I noticed they didn't use any tape, left the cabinet doors on, and painted over the hinges, which is a real mess. There are uneven lines inside the cabinets, and I even found paint on my oven and dishwasher. Also, the cabinets ended up much darker than the walls and don't align well at the edges. They're scheduled to come back tomorrow to finish up, but I'm unsure whether I should wait to see if they fix these problems or if I should hold back on full payment. I'm paying $2,850 for painting my dining room, living room, kitchen, halls, and trim, so I need some advice on what to do next. Thanks for your help!

Honestly, for $2,850, you should expect a higher standard of work. Based on what you've described, it sounds like they cut corners, which is why you’re seeing all those issues. For a job that major, most pros would charge quite a bit more. I think talking to them about the problems before paying the full amount is totally reasonable!
It sounds like you might have hired a crew that's a bit inexperienced. Generally, professional painters know how to get clean lines without tape and should definitely prep surfaces properly—like taking off cabinet doors and protecting hinges. It’s unfortunate you didn’t get a few quotes because that price seems low for the amount of work you're having done. I would suggest waiting to see what they do when they come back, but definitely have a conversation with them about your concerns before you pay in full.
