Advice on the Right Order for Home Exterior Projects?

Asked By H0meMkr99 On

I'm planning some big changes to the exterior of my home, including replacing the roof and adding gutters (haven't had any before). In addition, I want to paint the house, remove old landscaping, and put in new landscaping. What would be the best order for tackling these projects? I'd appreciate any tips or suggestions!

I'd suggest starting from the top and working your way down. For me, the roof should be the first priority, then go for the paint. After that, the gutters can be installed followed by the landscaping to add the finishing touches.

Honestly, I’d stick to roofing first, followed by painting, then do the gutters, and top it all off with landscaping. This way you get a clean slate before laying down any new plants or features.

Here's a good sequence to follow: First, replace the roof since that’s essential and it has to happen before you can put in gutters. After that, clear out the old landscaping to make room for everything. Next, paint the house—it's easier when the landscape is cleared. Once the paint is done and all trims are painted, put in the gutters. Finally, finish off with the new landscaping to make sure everything looks great without damage from the work beforehand.

That sounds right! You can also use the landscaping phase to make sure the gutters are directed away from the house, which is a plus. I'd even consider painting the eaves and soffits first before moving on to gutters.

I totally get what you mean about painted gutters! I went with a painted option after my house was done too, it allowed the painters to check for any hidden issues underneath them.
