Advice on Using Mahogany Trays for My Tupperdor

Hey everyone! I'm diving into the world of cigar storage and I'm building a tupperdor for better organization. I'm thinking about having custom mahogany trays made instead of relying on those "Spanish Cedar" trays you find online, which are mostly veneers. Since my tupperdor will be airtight, I know I won't need Spanish Cedar for humidity control. I'll be using Bovedas to manage the moisture. My main questions are: Should I have these mahogany trays varnished, stained, or should I leave them bare? If I go for the bare option, do I still need to season them? Thanks for your input!

As a cigar lover, I'd say that using wood can really help maintain stable humidity inside your tupperdor, even if it's airtight. I recommend using an 84% Boveda pack to start. Let the mahogany season until it's about 5% higher than your target storage humidity, then switch to a regular Boveda from there. Oh, and definitely go for bare wood inside the tupperdor—it's best for the cigars!

True, but keep in mind that the idea of Spanish Cedar repelling cigar beetles isn't too solid. If you're dealing with beetles, they're already there in the closed environment. Most eggs are really common on tobacco leaves, so it's more about hatching them rather than what wood you use. In the end, mahogany is a good choice if you want wood in your setup.
