Hey everyone! I'm trying to find a budget-friendly method to measure elevation across a large field that measures approximately 1000 yards by 30 yards. The challenge is that I won't have a clear line of sight to a base station due to a lot of trees obstructing the view. Is there a practical, inexpensive solution that can help me achieve a precision of within 12 inches, considering the size, precision requirements, and lack of visibility?

Have you considered using a Moasure? It’s pretty affordable and can pay for itself after just one use. It could be a good fit for your needs since it doesn’t require a clear sight line. Definitely worth checking out!
You could try using a laser level! Just set a stake as a zero point, and then add stakes as you go while making the necessary marks. It’s easier to see the laser line at night, which could help minimize the number of stakes you need. Just remember, it’s important to maintain your line of sight while you set it up, so be mindful of those trees.
If you're only doing this once, renting a rotary level with a receiver might be your best bet. It might actually be cheaper than buying one outright. Just keep in mind the classic saying: good, fast, cheap, pick two!

But don't forget you can't have a line of sight through those trees! That might complicate things a bit.
