I have three small vegetable plots in my front yard that are in the ground, and I need some advice on how to keep them watered while I'm away for a week during the summer. I can't spend a lot of money, as I'm on a tight budget. Are there any DIY solutions or low-cost methods to ensure my veggies stay hydrated during my absence?

A really cheap option is to fill up some 5-gallon buckets, drill tiny holes in the bottom, and let them slowly drain into the soil. It can be a bit rudimentary, but it works! You might also consider using a DIY drip irrigator with a plastic bottle by drilling holes in it, burying it upside down, and letting it release water slowly. Just remember, you may still need to check it when you return!
