Am I Being Too Picky About This Painting Job?

Hey everyone! I'm a first-time homeowner and I just moved into my new apartment. I don't have any experience with painting, but I feel a bit let down by how the painting was done. I've got some pictures of specific issues: there's paint splattered on the floor under the doors, some cracks in the paint, and the corners and angles don't seem clean to me. Plus, the paint looks rough on the skirting boards and there's a hair stuck in there! When I raised these issues, the painter shrugged them off and told me that it's normal for paint jobs to have imperfections because they're done by humans. He suggested that I wouldn't notice these problems once I moved in and decorated. So, I'm wondering, am I being too picky? If not, how should I go about fixing these issues? Appreciate any advice!

Honestly, it sounds like you're right to be concerned. I’m not a pro, but I'd say a decent painting job shouldn't have that many visible mistakes. The paint shouldn’t be on the floor and those cracks should have been fixed beforehand. It sounds like the surfaces might not have been prepped properly before painting. If you're unsure about tackling it yourself, I'd suggest getting a second opinion from another painter. Better safe than sorry!

Thanks for the support! I really appreciate that it’s not just me being fussy.

From what you described, it looks like a mix of both bad painting and lack of prep work. Ideally, the painter should have sanded and filled any cracks before applying new paint. That's a step that can make all the difference! If you can touch up those areas yourself with some sanding and a fresh coat of paint, it might end up looking a lot better. But getting a professional to fix it would certainly ensure it's up to par.

Thanks! I think I’ll look into getting some help with those fixes.
