Am I Breaking the Law if I Try to Save a Fallen Tree on Council Land?

Hey everyone, I know this might sound a bit odd, but there's this small tree that the council planted, and it's really struggling. It's been damaged and now the wind has blown it over. I was thinking about taking it home to try and save it, but I'm worried that might be considered stealing. I just can't stand to see it die without giving it a chance. Should I just leave it be? If it helps, I can take some pictures to show its condition. Any advice would be appreciated!

Honestly, if you just yank those roots out, you might end up in trouble. It’s the kind of scenario where a cop might show up right as you're trying to help. I'd recommend keeping track of the progress and maybe document it with some photos in case you need backup later.

I get where you're coming from, but digging it up and taking it home might be seen as theft, sadly. If you can, why not try staking it right where it is? Give it some TLC in its original spot instead of moving it.

Yeah, it's pretty much on the side of the road and already out of the soil. I'll definitely try to stake it and see if I can give it some support!

I get wanting to help, but taking it away probably isn’t the best idea. Contact the council instead and let them handle it. They may end up re-staking or even replacing it if it’s really bad. Plus, you could ask about it when they do check it out again — you might be able to adopt it once they’re done!

That's a solid plan! I think I'll reach out to them. It's just heartbreaking to see it like this.

Absolutely! If they’re replacing it, asking nicely might just work. Just keep your fingers crossed that it doesn’t end up in the bin.
