Am I doomed for this year’s garden season after neglecting it last fall?

Hey everyone! I moved into a new house last year and started gardening, which was a success until life got hectic with a new baby in August. I was too swamped to care for my garden properly. I cut back on some plants but left a lot of them, including kale that attracted aphids and lettuces that went to seed. With spring approaching and now having more time, I cleaned up the garden, but I'm worried about the potential issues from not prepping it for winter, like fungal diseases and pest problems. Did I mess things up for this growing season? What can I do to fix it?

Honestly, you probably don't need to stress too much. A lot of gardeners skip the fall cleanup like you did, and it usually turns out okay. You're in the right season to add some amendments and freshen everything up!

Yeah, I agree! I didn't tidy mine up either, and it turned out just fine. Plus, you might find some surprise volunteer plants in your garden this year!

You're going to be fine! You might have more work ahead of you than usual, but it's totally manageable. Just make sure you rotate your crops when planting this season to keep your soil healthy.
