Am I in Trouble for Hammering a Screw into a Stud?

Hey everyone! I'm pretty new to using tools, and I recently ran into a bit of a situation while trying to anchor some cabinets to my wall. I didn't know that two of the holes I made for the screws lined up with studs. I ended up hammering a screw into one of these studs, thinking it wasn't going in properly. I didn't hit it super hard but tapped it a few times before realizing what was happening. Now I'm worried that I might have damaged the studs and compromised the wall's integrity. I've since removed the screws and my dad will help me do it properly, but I just want to make sure the wall is still safe. Does anyone think I've caused any serious damage? Thanks for any insights!

Honestly, if it didn't feel like anything broke when you hammered it, you're probably good. You might have stripped the hole a bit, but if everything feels tight now, you're in the clear. Just treat it as a learning moment!

Hey, you're learning! It’s great you're tackling this yourself. But just a heads up, if the furniture is heavy, you might want to make sure the screw is really anchored well in the stud. It can strip if it’s pounded in too deep. Just check if everything feels secure before putting anything heavy on the cabinets!

Thanks for the advice! I definitely learned a lesson there. Is there an easy way to check if I hit any pipes or electrical wires when I hammered the screw?

Don't stress too much! Hammering a screw into a stud usually won't cause any trouble. If the screw is secure, your cabinet should be okay.

I get your worries, but unless your cabinets feel wobbly or loose, you should be fine. Just make sure to follow your dad’s guidance when he comes over! And yeah, always check for studs (and wires or pipes) before screwing in next time. It’s a good learning experience for sure!
