Am I Right to Be Concerned About My Contractor’s Work?

Hey everyone! I've been reading this forum for a while, but this is my first time posting. I recently had some work done on my sunroom, which was added onto a deck by the previous owner. I hired a contractor to replace the vinyl siding, trim around the windows, and generally make sure it was waterproof. My assumption was that there would be some kind of sheathing behind the vinyl siding to protect it. However, I noticed that there's nothing in the cavity, and it looks like it's just open space. I'm not an expert, but this feels really inadequate to me. I'm worried that if something hits the wall, it could cause some serious issues in the future. Before I approach my contractor, I wanted to get some insight from you all. Thanks in advance!

Yeah, you definitely should have expected some type of sheathing there. I had a similar situation once where a contractor convinced a homeowner that gaps in the drywall were for ventilation—total nonsense! It’s surprising how often things like this happen, and it could cause problems down the line. I'd be questioning your contractor’s experience if I were you, especially since it seems like a critical step was missed.

That’s wild! I had no clue people tried to pull that on homeowners. It’s frustrating to deal with bad work, especially when it should be straightforward. Hope you get it sorted out!
