I'm curious to know how many of you have built a bow saw from Tools For Working Wood. How has your experience been with it? What type of wood did you choose for your build, and which kit did you end up buying? I'm seriously thinking about getting the $60 kit and I'm on the hunt for some hickory or possibly ash for my project.

I made a turning saw from hickory, and I absolutely love it!
I built mine using the $60 kit and made it out of maple. Honestly, it’s fantastic—way better than my old coping saw!
That looks great! Did you just follow the instructions on their site? Maple is pretty easy to find, but hickory can be tricky!
Bow saws are awesome for their lightness and thin kerf, but they can be a bit bulky. Personally, I prefer a Japanese pull saw. They have the same perks and are easy to handle once you learn the technique. If I were to make a bow saw, I’d skip the kit and just grab a blade—the hardwood can usually be anything like red oak or maple.
What type of pull saw do you recommend? These seem similar to coping saws, right?
Nice! TFWW recommends hickory, but I’ve read you can use other hardwoods with similar properties.
