Anyone know how to get my door to play random sitcom jingles when it opens?

Hey everyone! I'm trying to set up my front door so it plays different sitcom jingles whenever it opens. The tricky part is that the door is located between our main house stairs and the basement, meaning I can't use a motion sensor since it would trip every time someone goes downstairs. Unfortunately, there aren't any outlets nearby to power an Arduino, which I'd prefer to avoid anyway.

We do have a Google Nest speaker in the living room close to the door, and I'm wondering if there's a way to connect a door sensor to the Nest or something else to trigger the jingles. I was considering a device similar to this one: https://a.co/d/dGe2qIP, but I'm not sure how to make it play custom sounds or if I can get it to play them randomly. Any suggestions would be super helpful. Thanks a ton!

Just a heads up, when you say 'random' it usually just means 'shuffle' if you're using a music app. So, if you have a library of your jingles ready, you can set it to shuffle and create that surprise every time someone opens the door!

Using IFTTT could be your best bet! You can find a compatible door-opening sensor and connect it to IFTTT, which would let you set up a trigger to play your jingles when the door opens. This way, you can create a fun and random sound experience without too much hassle!

That sounds a lot easier than I thought! Thanks for the tip!

If you're looking for something simple, grab a wireless door sensor, like those used in security systems. They stick on easily and don't require a lot of power. Then you can set Google Assistant to play your sitcom tracks when the door opens. Just make sure the sensor is compatible!

Good idea! I'll check those out.
