Are 1/2 to 1/4 Router Collet Adapters a Good Option?

I've got a bunch of 1/4 shank bits for my palm router, but now that I've moved on to a 1/2 shank BOSCH table router, I'm weighing my options. Instead of splurging on new half-inch router bits, I'm looking at a $15 whiteside adapter. Is this a reliable solution, or does using an adapter increase the chances of something going wrong? I'm just a hobbyist doing light projects, mainly working with jatoba for a couple of thresholds and splines.

Most routers actually come with both 1/2 and 1/4 collets, so you might already have what you need! Just check what came with your table router—as long as you're not going for deep cuts, either collet should work just fine.

I’d recommend skipping the 1/2-1/4 sleeve adapter. It’s better to get a dedicated 1/4 collet for your table router. That way you won't have to worry about any potential issues with the adapter.

I had no idea I could just swap in a 1/4” collet on my 1/2” router! I'm definitely checking that out when I get home. Thanks for the tip!
