I'm a first-time homeowner and I'm considering installing four can lights in my kitchen. One electrician quoted me $2100 for the whole job, which includes the lights, removal of old junction boxes, and new switches. Does this price seem high to you guys? What have you all paid for your can lights?

The quote seems kind of steep, but keep in mind that a big part of that expense is the labor and expertise. The lights themselves don't cost that much, but hiring someone to do it right is what you're really paying for.
Have you thought about going for wafer lights instead of traditional can lights? They are usually cheaper and can be mounted directly to the ceiling. Installation is a breeze — you just need a hole saw and some basic tools. It's definitely worth checking out!

Plus, if you can run the wires through the ceiling without needing to patch or paint anything, you can save even more!
