Are Houseplants Safe to Plant in the Garden?

I'm considering a garden overhaul and I'm curious about the dos and don'ts of transferring houseplants outdoors. I love the idea of creating a tropical vibe with species like birds of paradise and monstera, but I'm worried about root issues—especially since we have cast iron pipes. What houseplants should I avoid, and what are some good options for the garden? Also, I'm eyeing some flowers like peonies, hydrangeas, and roses, but I'm not sure which ones might thrive. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

You're spot on—it's very location-specific. Check your hardiness zone first! If it's too cold, you'll need to stick to containers you can bring inside. Also, be cautious of invasiveness with plants like pothos and tradescantia in hotter regions. Consider a greenhouse or container garden if you can’t plant them directly in your yard, and keep in mind that as they grow, they’ll need more space indoors come winter!

Don't forget to contact your utility company to mark any buried lines before you start planting! It's important to avoid any costly mishaps.
