I've been hearing mixed opinions about in-ceiling 5.1 speaker systems. Some say it's a total dealbreaker for home theater setups. I'd love to hear from folks not just in r/hometheater. Specifically, I'm curious about: 1. Do you think it's possible to maximize home theater experience with this setup? 2. Any recommendations on specific speakers? I'm open to any price range.

Honestly, I don’t get why you'd go for in-ceiling speakers at all. Sounds are supposed to come from your ear level, and having them above you just messes with that experience. It feels all wrong!
While in-ceiling setups aren’t ideal, they can still sound really good! The main concern is placement—especially with the center speaker. It really needs to be right over or under the TV for best effects. If you're using a big projector screen, it's not as bad because at least the sound comes close to the picture source. For what it’s worth, I use these directional speakers from Monoprice as my center, and they sound totally natural! Check them out here: [Monoprice Center Channel](https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=13687).

How far above the top edge of your screen are your speakers? Do they sound like they’re coming from the screen?
