I've recently planted watermelons for the first time and I'm excited to see that I have ten melons growing! However, I'm concerned because the vines look pretty bad—many of the leaves are turning brown and the vines seem to be compressed. Is this a normal stage for watermelon plants, especially here in Tennessee? Any advice would be appreciated!

It sounds like your vines might be nearing the end of their life cycle, especially if your melons are getting close to harvest. Sometimes, once the fruit is nearing maturity, the plant will start to fade as it has done its job. Don't stress too much unless the melons are tiny or not progressing!

Yeah, I'm not sure those melons look ready either. But maybe they just need a little more time? Keep an eye on them!
