Are My Windows Missing Seals?

Asked By DanTheMan74 On

I recently bought a house with horizontal sliding windows, and I've noticed that when it rains, water is coming into the frame from a small groove on the outside. This groove is located underneath the glass on the stationary side of the window, and it doesn't appear to be part of the track leading to a weep hole. It really seems like there should be some kind of seal that fits into that groove, but I can't find any pictures or information about it. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Is it common?

I used to have similar issues with my old sliding aluminum windows. They had seals that needed replacing too. My windows had grooves around the edges for seals, and when I couldn't find help, I just ordered the seal replacements online and did it myself. You might want to look for something similar! Hey! It sounds like the stationary panel might be missing some bottom plastic snap-ins, which could definitely lead to leaks. Is this happening in just one window, or are all of them having this issue? If it's all the windows, that's a bigger problem!

I’ve seen this before. Make sure to check for any trim pieces that could be missing too!

Yeah, it’s happening with all the windows in my house. I’ve been trying to reach out to the builder, but they’re not being super helpful. It's frustrating!
