I'm curious about using old tea towels as weed barriers around my plants instead of the usual options like newspaper or landscaping fabric. Has anyone tried this approach? What are the pros and cons, especially in terms of effectiveness and longevity?

What exactly are those tea towels made of? Just curious! LOL.
I would be worried about them getting gross when wet and potentially sprouting things like moss. Honestly, straw works better for me, and it keeps weeds at bay really well!
That’s a concern of mine too, especially since my garden gets full sun until about 5 PM. I'm just trying not to spend much this year and experimenting with different options.
Using tea towels is a bit hit or miss. They can stiffen and might not hold up against aggressive weeds. If you're looking for a temporary solution, I’d suggest stacking cardboard with some mulch on top instead – it's much more effective. Avoid landscaping fabric if you can; it can cause more problems than it solves!
This is for my veggie garden, so I'm hoping for something that can last until October at least.
