Are Slugs on Lettuce Dangerous If Eaten?

I've been enjoying fresh lettuce from my garden for a month, but I just noticed some slugs on the leaves when I went to pick some for a salad. I made sure to remove the slugs and any affected lettuce. I'm really worried, though—what if I accidentally ate one without realizing? I always wash my lettuce before eating it, but I just can't shake the thought. I live in the southeastern U.S., so I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

No need to panic! Slugs are generally not toxic, but they can carry parasites, like rat lungworm, which are rare but something to be aware of. It sounds like you’ll be fine since you always wash your lettuce, just remember to keep an eye out if you see them again. No eating slugs on purpose, though!

Honestly, slugs do pack some protein, but the ick factor is real! I get that it’s gross, and it's better to avoid eating slugs if you can. Just keep washing your veggies well—you're probably in the clear!

Please don't eat slugs raw! That's a bad idea. Stick to safer gardening practices instead.
