Are Solar Attic Fans Worth It?

I'm trying to improve the insulation in my attic, and I've had a few contractors give me their thoughts. My house is from the 60s and it has vents on each side, plus two vents on the roof. Several contractors have suggested installing Solar Attic Fans, like the one I found linked here. One company quoted me $1,499 for this fan, but I can buy it directly from the manufacturer for $398. Seems like they're marking it up a lot! I've seen mixed reviews online about these fans, so I'm curious what you all think. By the way, I live in Saint Louis, Missouri, so any specific insights about that would be great. Thanks!

As a roofer, I can tell you that if your roof already has ventilation, it’s doing a decent job at managing moisture. A solar attic fan can help, but it might draw in humid air faster when it’s running. If you have access to electrical lines, a wired fan might be a better option since it usually comes with a thermostat to automatically control it. So even when the sun sets and it’s still hot up there, it can keep venting out heat.

Thanks a ton for the advice! Do you have any thoughts on this fan instead? I found one that I could install myself without making extra holes in my roof. Plus, I could integrate it with my existing Home Assistant system. I already have gable vents on both sides, so it seems like a doable project.
