Are There Any Downsides to Using White Pebbles as Pot Toppers?

Hey everyone! I just planted some new roses (I can't help but collect them!) and saw a squirrel digging in the pot of my patio standard rose the other day. My neighbor feeds the squirrels, so we have a ton of them around. I want to discourage them from digging in my pots without hurting them, so I thought about putting a layer of small white pebbles on top of the soil. Do you think there are any downsides to using white pebbles for this purpose? Thanks in advance!

Honestly, the only downside I can see is that the white pebbles will eventually lose their color and maybe turn green or gray over time. But for now, they should look great!

Yeah, that doesn't sound ideal. I'm not sure what else could deter the squirrels since they'll keep digging. Good luck!
